How Skills Matching Works

The system calculates your match percentage using:

Match % = (Your Skills ∩ Job Skills) / Total Job Skills × 100

Example:

  • Job requires: React, TypeScript, Figma, User Research (4 skills)
  • You have: React, TypeScript, Figma (3 skills)
  • Match: 75% (3 out of 4)

Recommendation Logic:

  • ✅ 60%+ match = Recommended
  • ✅ Same career path = Recommended (even if <60%)
  • Career path alignment gets bonus scoring

3. Salary Benchmarking

Available in: Business (internal only), Enterprise (internal + external)

What It Shows

Internal Benchmarking (Business+):

  • Your position within your salary band (min/mid/max)
  • Compa-ratio (your salary vs. band midpoint)
  • Quartile position (Q1-Q4)

External Benchmarking (Enterprise):

  • Market salary data for your role
  • Industry and location-specific comparisons
  • Comparison against major tech companies
  • Data sourced from Sparko's central compensation database

Visual Example - Internal Position

💡 Market Insight Your salary is competitive within your market. Top-tier tech companies (OpenAI, Google) pay 15-35% above market median.

Understanding Compa-Ratio

Ratio Position What It Means
<0.80 Below Band Significantly below midpoint
0.80-0.95 Lower Band Below midpoint, room for growth
0.95-1.05 At Midpoint Aligned with band center
1.05-1.20 Upper Band Above midpoint, strong position
>1.20 Top of Band At or near band maximum

How External Benchmarking Works

  1. Check Internal Database First: Sparko maintains a central compensation database shared across all customers
  2. Search Web if Needed: If data isn't available, Sparko searches industry sources and stores results
  3. Benefit Everyone: Data collected benefits all Sparko customers - the database grows with each search
  4. Filter by:
    • Job title or role level
    • Industry (Technology, Finance, Healthcare, etc.)
    • Location (country, state, city)
    • Company size

4. Peer Skill Benchmarks

Available in: Business, Enterprise

What It Shows

Compare your skill levels with peers in similar roles - completely anonymized. See where you excel and where to focus development efforts.

Privacy Protection:

  • Minimum 5 peers required for comparison
  • No individual data ever exposed
  • Peers filtered by job title OR department
  • All data aggregated and anonymized
